Freckles and Age spots

Here we have listed several really easy ways to reduce or eliminate freckles or age spots. There quick and easy to assemble!

Cucumbers- are said to be excellent bleaching agents for the skin, and can be used on brown spots.

To make a lotion, mix 1 tsp of the cucumber juice with 2 tsp. of water. Apply once in the morning and once at night, letting it dry on the skin.

Almond paste - Cover your face and then pat lemon juice into the skin with a cotton ball or wash cloth. This will remove some of the freckles. Don't go out into the sun while your skin is wet though.

Chickpeas- mash 1/3 cup of them in a little water. Apply the paste and let it dry then wash completely. Apply daily.

Lemon juice- provides a powerful, astringent, and it can dry out skin oils. The juice can also lighten freckles, especially when exposed to sunlight. Short term exposure to the sun will bleach your skin and Long term exposure can create more freckles.

Papaya juice helps remove skin blemishes and may lighten freckles. Squeeze the juice straight from the papaya and rub it into the skin. An enzyme in the juice removes dead surface cells. The result is wonderfully smooth, soft skin.

Homemade Facial Scrub

A few things to keep in mind when using any type of homemade scrub:

Exfoliation works better when done on a regular basis, once a week at a minimum. Gentle exfoliation can be done several times a week.

Use gentle circular motions to avoid scratching or irritating facial skin.

Don't use ingredients that you are allergic to. If in doubt do a patch test.

Avoid eye area when applying.

Exfoliate at night and give your skin a chance to replenish.

Do not use on irritated, inflamed or broken skin.

Have fun, experiment and let those young new skin cells shine through.

Coarse Ingredients:

Coffee grounds (used are just fine)-They are antibacterial, exfoliating and stimulating to the skin.

Sugar (table sugar or coarse)-Works well with olive oil to provide gentle scrubbing for your homemade exfoliant.

Almonds (ground up)-Creates a gentle scrubbing action while providing healthy oils to the skin.

Oatmeal (use natural unflavored)-Healing and soothing for the skin especially sensitive skin. Ground up for finer scrub or left as is for a little more action.

Corn flour or rice powder-Another good easily available choice especially for oily skin. Helps absorb skin oils.

Kosher or sea salt-An age old exfoliant, use a gentle touch to avoid irritating the skin. Coarse salt and coarse sugar work better when combined with a moist ingredient that is sticky. When combined with just a juice no paste is formed.

Moist Ingredients

Lemon juice

Limejuice

Orange juice-These juices provide astringent quality to your homemade scrub. Plus the vitamin C provides a boost. Good for oily skins.

Honey-Healing and soothing along with an ability to help skin retain moisture.

Yogurt, milk, sour cream etc.-Contains lactic acid which help skin slough off dead skin cells.

Olive oil-Soothing, moisturizing. Antioxidants help protect the skin from the effects of aging.

Cucumber (peeled and pureed)-Provides cooling and astringent qualities.

Avocado (mashed)-Rich in vitamins antioxidants and Moisturizing. Good for dry skin.

Apple juice-Contains natural fruit acids which help exfoliate. Usually a tablespoon or two of coarse ingredients is enough; add in moist ingredients a little at a time to create a paste.

Water can always be added if any mixture is too thick. Apply to both face and neck and if you make a little extra use on the back of your hands.

DIY Bath Salts

1 cup Epsom salt

1 cup Sea salt

1/2 cup Baking soda

1/2 teaspoon essential Oils as desired

Bath Fizzies

1 cup Epsom salts

1 cups Sea Salt

1 cup Baking Soda

½ cup Citric Acid

Food coloring: 4 drops blue, 6 drops green

8 drops Lavender Essential Oil

15 drops Bergamot Essential Oil

15 drops Sweet Orange Essential Oil

Super Moisurizing Bath Fizzies

1 cup citric acid

2 cups baking soda

1 teaspoon fragrance oil

1 teaspoon olive oil (or shea butter or cocoa butter)

Follow the basic bath bomb directions above and drizzle the olive oil in with the fragrance oil.

If you want to substitute some of the baking soda, you can substitute up to 1 full cup with dehydrated milk (goat's milk or regular milk).

If you want a colored bath, add powdered food coloring or liquid food coloring or you can add kool aid. If you add 1/2 tsp. of liquid food coloring to the basic recipe, this should give you a colored bath. If you add 1/8 tsp. powdered food coloring to the basic recipe, you will get a wonderfully vibrant tub. If your tub is dirty, or has excess oil in it, this recipe will leave a ring around your tub. Happy Soaping!

Basic Bath Bomb

1 part citric acid

2 parts baking soda

Witch hazel

Coloring of your choice

Fragrance oil of your choice

Dome Shaped Mold

BLEND the citric acid and baking soda – Use a mixer or you end up with a grainy bomb.

Once you’ve blended, add your colorant. Dry pigments work best – don’t add too much – the color shows up once you add the witch hazel.

Add fragrance oils to your preference.

Now, this is the tricky part. Squirt the witch hazel onto your batch with a squirt bottle while stirring with the other hand. When your batch sticks together, you need to start putting it in molds – time is very important and should be done as quickly as possible. If you wait too long, the mixture hardens. If you spray too much, the mixture will be too wet and start fizzing on you.

Put the bombs in molds – wait a few minutes and tap them out. Let them dry for 3 or 4 hours and you have hard bath bombs. The harder you pack them, the more durable they will be.

Fizzy Milk Bath Bombs

1 cup baking soda

2Tablespoon olive oil (tip: infuse calendula petals for an extra therapeutic bath)

2teaspoon melted cocoa butter

1teaspoon fragrance or essential oil

3-7teaspoons water/witch hazel blends (1:1). TIP: put in a spray bottle for even dispersion

Mix all dry ingredients together well, drizzle the olive oil and melted cocoa butter and fragrance/essential oil over the dry mix, mix together with hands, and then use witch hazel/water blend to get the product to the right consistency to shove into your favorite molds. Enjoy with your bath!

Foot Care

First thing to do is drink lots of water to keep the skin hydrated. It will keep your skin soft and supple and skin will not get as dry to get cuts and cracks.

Soak your feet in lukewarm water with a little soap in it. It will loosen the tight dead skin from your soles and heels.

Use foot scrubber to scrub the dead skin and brush away the dead skin with a small brush meant for feet.

Rubbing pumice stone too is helpful in clearing the dead dull skin.

Wipe your feet and massage foot cream on them.

Always keep the nails cut and well shaped.

If you are already getting cracked heels on your feet then regularly scrub away the dead skin and apply foot cream, which is made for cracked heels.

Best way to soften the hard skin on heels and reduce the cracks is soaking feet in Luke warm water for 5-10 minutes then scrubbing the dead skin and then applying the foot cream on the heels before going to bead. Then wear cotton soaks on your feet throughout the night that way skin will absorb the moister and the cracks of the heels will heal faster.

To avoid foot pain wear shoes that are the right, size for your feet. Tight or loose shoes create problems for the feet. You should go to buy new shoes in the evening because that is the time when there is water retention in the body and you will come to know the exact size of your feet.

You can spray foot spray or powder in your shoes while putting your feet in.
